BlackFlash Magazine is accepting applications to join our Board of Directors.
BlackFlash fosters critical discourse and thoughtful engagement with contemporary art practice from a distinctive prairie perspective. BlackFlash is published in Saskatoon by Buffalo Berry Press, a registered not-for-profit corporation with charitable status.
Board members commit to a minimum two-year volunteer term and are eligible for reappointment for additional terms at the discretion of the Board. Members will bring leadership, energy, and experience to the organization. The BlackFlash Board of Directors is a working board whose members actively contribute to fundraising and sponsorship, governance, and human resources, among other aspects of the organization. The organization values diverse cultural backgrounds and age groups and strives for balanced gender representation.
In addition to seeking Members at Large, at this time, the BlackFlash Board of Directors seeks to specifically fill its Executive roles, with terms beginning December 2024.
Successful candidates will have:
- An interest in advocating and promoting contemporary art and small publishing;
- A passion for building the Prairie art community
- Capacity and/or knowledge to contribute to activities such as fund development, online marketing, grant writing, and bookkeeping.
For all roles, experience with non-profit arts organizations is an asset, and expected time commitment is approximately 5 volunteer hours (variable) each month for monthly board meetings and other board initiatives. Priority will be given to Prairie-based applicants (specifically Saskatoon), though all interested candidates are encouraged to apply.
About Us
Published three times per year, BlackFlash is a platform for emerging and established artists, writers, and curators. BlackFlash helps develop and support professional art practice while providing a space for culturally and artistically diverse voices. While our program includes writers and artists from across the country and abroad, we have a specific interest in supporting the work of writers and artists practicing in the prairies.
If you feel like BlackFlash might be a good fit for you, please send a short statement of interest (max. one page) that speaks to how you may best support the publication, as well as your resume to chair [at] blackflash.ca. Applications will be evaluated by an internal committee and successful candidates will be invited to interview. The deadline for applications is Friday, November 15th, 2024.
New members will be voted in at our December 2024 Annual General Meeting.
