Support BlackFlash this Giving Tuesday

Just like the Giving Tuesday that we’re all used to in late November, #GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving to support groups working for a better world. BlackFlash Magazine has been supporting emerging artists and Prairie voices for over 37 years. We are proud to call Saskatoon our home and share the cultural landscape with this incredible community. If you have enjoyed our publishing practice or events, please consider supporting BlackFlash this #GivingTuesdayNow through CanadaHelps.

Our Impact

BlackFlash Magazine is an internationally recognized platform for contemporary art with a unique Prairie perspective. BlackFlash proudly showcases both emerging and established artists, writers, and curators from across Canada and abroad through profiles, interviews, reviews, feature articles, and artist projects.

Our readership includes artists, academics, curators, cultural stakeholders, the public at large, and the employees and members of artist-run centres, galleries, and museums, and our subscriber base and newsstand distribution spans the country, in both rural and urban locations. BlackFlash is published three times a year in print and digital formats, circulating 2100 copies and reaching more than 6300 people annually.

BlackFlash makes important contributions to the vibrant culture of our city and region and the broader arts ecology through our publishing practices, free programming, community partnerships, and public events. Our website blackflash.ca averages 2000 unique visitors per month and our social media reach is more than 3500 people with followers on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. BlackFlash receives 62,500 annual online views.

Our History

BlackFlash Magazine was established in 1983 by The Photographer’s Gallery, one of Canada’s earliest artist-run centres, and in 1998 BlackFlash became an independent organization. Published by Buffalo Berry Press, a registered not-for-profit corporation, BlackFlash is now in its 37th year of consecutive publication and is one of the longest running art magazines in Canada.

Your Support

When you support BlackFlash Magazine, you support Canadian artists, writers, galleries, and museums. For the past three decades, BlackFlash has been an essential platform for visual art and culture, with a specific dedication to the work of Prairie artists and writers. BlackFlash has not been immune to the repercussions of COVID-19. We have had to cancel our primary annual fundraising event and have lost advertising revenue due to the extended closures of galleries and museums. Your support ensures BlackFlash’s continued success sharing the artists and ideas that fill our pages.  A donation to BlackFlash directly supports our contributors and the local art ecology that makes our community wonderful.

If you wish to join our supporters, you can make a donation now, for an immediate charitable receipt, through CanadaHelps.

You can also show your support by subscribing to BlackFlash.

All donations of $50+ will receive a 1-year subscription to BlackFlash.
