What is BlackFlash2.0?
BF2.0 or 2.0, as it has been affectionately dubbed, is a collaborative authorship project that will result in a published (yes a real print edition!) issue in May 2010. All the material for that issue will be sourced from this website. It’s a way to great way to get noticed by BlackFlash and the rest of Canada. Who can participate?
Anyone! All you have to do is sign up. Just register and you’ll be on your way. We’ll e-mail you a password that you can change later on.
When you register you get authorship capabilities. That means you can write and edit your own posts and comment on other people’s posts.
Some more general information…
You’ve probably noticed the site is divided into categories. On the right under the “Participation” header you’ll find 2.0 Primer, Artist Pages, Image Blog, Interviews and Topics. These are the categories we’re working with right now but we’re not stuck to them. New categories will be added as we go along and if you have a suggestion for a new section, let us know!
Here’s a short list of what the current categories are:
2.0 Primer: You’re here! You’ll find explanations and troubleshooting tips that you can add to.
Artist Pages: Profiles of artists who you think deserve attention.
Image Blog: Upload your photos and get them published…guaranteed! For the sake of continuity, we kindly request you format your images to 450px wide. This keeps us and you looking good.
Interviews: Is there an artist you’d like to interview? Are there questions you’re burning to ask? Here’s your chance. Construct an interview on the web, alone or collaboratively, and we’ll contact the artist to answer your questions.
Topics: The everything and anything category. It’s for the hot issues of today.

1. I didn’t get my BlackFlash 2.0 password e-mail!
Are you checking the right e-mail account? Maybe it’s in your junkmail.
2. I want to edit another post but I can’t. What gives?
When you register your profile is automatically are set at “author” status. This means you can comment and write new posts but you can’t add to or change anyone else’s posts. If you want to take more collaborative initiative, we can upgrade you to an editor. Just e-mail Dagmara Genda at online@blackflash.ca.
3. How do I track if anyone has posted or commented?
BlackFlash 2.0 supports RSS feeds which update you whenever anyone has commented on an article or if a new entry has been posted. RSS stands for really simple syndication and can now be read with most browsers or an RSS reader that you can download. The readers work like any e-mail program except instead of having contacts, you have subscriptions to newsfeeds. This saves you time in going from website to website.
Our RSS feeds are on the bottom of the webpage in small orange print. Notice that one says ENTRIES (RSS) and the other COMMENTS (RSS). Just click on one to subscribe. If you don’t have an RSS reader, there are many to choose from on the web. I personally like SharpReader becuase it’s so simple but you can find lots if you just google “RSS reader.”
